2022 CASE conference and election
Dear Case Teachers and Case Writers:
Chris Christensen, from the Harvard School of Business, described case method teaching as “the art of managing uncertainty“—a process in which the instructor serves as “planner, host, moderator, devil’s advocate, fellow-student, and judge,” all in search of solutions to real-world problems and challenges. The last two years have underscored the importance of case writing and the case teaching method.
We hope that all of you will be attending the The CASE Association (TCA) /Eastern Association of Management (EAM) conference May 17-20 in Portland, MA to take advantage of the great learning opportunities offered by TCA and EAM. Here’s the registration link: https://www.eaom.org/EAM-2022
Our very special guest instructor is Gina Vega, author of the case writer’s bible, The Case Writing Workbook, now in its third edition. Gina will have her new book available at the conference. This is an instruction session not to be missed for anyone interested in developing case writing and case instruction. Gina will also give valuable pointers on how to get your case published!!!
TCA is a volunteer organization that provides training and a pipeline to case publication in The CASE Association Journal. Do you want to serve in leadership roles at The CASE Association? We need volunteers to keep this important mission alive. This is also an opportunity for you to satisfy the service requirement at your university or college.
Consistent with the by-laws of the TCA, elections will be held at the conference for three open board positions. You do not have to attend the conference to be elected. Board, terms to begin at the conclusion of our May 2022 conference. This year we have three Officer elections to conduct:
V.P. Programs Elect (2022-2024)
We are also seeking a new “web master” to help maintain our newly redesigned website.
Nominations for each of these positions are accepted NOW! TCA members may nominate others as well as self-nominate. On acceptance of nomination, nominees must provide a current CV and a current photo. Nominations should be sent via email to the TCA President, Miriam Weismann at email@example.com.
Welcome to The CASE Association
The CASE Association (CASE, formerly known as the Eastern Case Writers’ Association) welcomes you to its web site. CASE is an affiliate of the North American Case Association (NACRA) and meets annually in May in conjunction with the Eastern Academy of Management (EAM). This home page is designed to become your gateway to the wonderful world of case writing, teaching, and research, and therefore remains a work in progress.
Among our recent innovations, CASE launched the Certified Case Writer Program in 2017. The program is designed to certify experienced case writers, mentor new case writers, and hopefully offer business school faculty, whether scholars or practitioners, an avenue toward publication. Please check out the information on our website to participate. Gina Vega and David Desplaces are the program directors. We are very enthusiastic about this program!
Our online journal, The CASE Journal, pioneered in October of 2004, includes not only teaching cases but also articles addressing the case method of instruction and research. Full access to the journal is available to all with a simple login procedure. Please encourage your business school departments and colleagues to submit cases. The editor of The CASE Journal, Rebecca Morris, is hard at work to bring us another great issue. Read more ….
